President tells institutions to prioritize quality
Addis Ababa June 18/2016 President Mulatu Teshome has advised business institutions to give more focus to the quality aspect of their products and services.
Ensuring quality of services and products aids in realizing the nation’s plans of sustainable and inclusive growth, the President said at the fourth Ethiopian Quality Award (EQA) ceremony held in Addis Ababa on Friday.
Alongside quality, institutions are also advised to embrace competition.
The quality award event saw 11 business entities from 55 entries receive 1st to 3rd level trophies while others were given certificates of appreciation and participation.
Dr. Mulatu on the occasion said the quality award plays significantly in promoting the concept of quality among the various business entities across the nation.
The award winners and other entries passed through a time taking and thorough assessment process using seven key criteria such as leadership, business performance, impact on society and others.
According to the President, the government is committed to assist local institutions to compete at the global stage.
Gondar University, International Clinical Laboratories, Ethiopian Leather, Teklebirhan Ambaye Construction and Organization for Rehabilitation & Development in Amhara (ORDA) were awarded 1st level trophy.
Board Chairman of EQA and President of Addis Ababa University Dr. Admasu Tsegaye on his part said the awarding organization is working for the wider promotion of quality among producers, service providers and other actors of development.
Dr. Admasu emphasized the need for prioritizing quality of goods and services to help the nation attain a middle income status by 2025.
Award winners for their part said the award and recognition they received will inspire them for further achievement in quality.
Set up eight years ago by Addis Ababa University (AAU) and Walta Information Center (WIC), EQA aims at developing quality of services and products of Ethiopian institutions and organizations.
